Postdoctoral researcher
Xiaohui Yu
Dr. Xiaohui Yu joined the lab in 2024 as a postdoctoral researcher focusing on the genetics of wheat rust disease resistance. His research aims to identify and characterize resistance genes that protect wheat from rust pathogens, contributing to sustainable crop improvement and global food security.
Xiaohui completed his Master’s degree at Lincoln University and his PhD at The University of Sydney, where he studied the genetics of barley rust resistance. Through this work, he developed strong expertise in rust pathology, plant genetics, and gene cloning.
Now expanding his research from barley to wheat, he is motivated by the critical importance of wheat as a staple crop worldwide. He is particularly excited by the challenge of unraveling the genetic basis of plant immunity and uncovering the mechanisms that enable crops to resist rust diseases.
