Postdoctoral researcher

Urooj Fatima

Urooj Fatima joined the lab in October 2021 as a postdoctoral researcher. Her research focuses on understanding the molecular basis of Lectin Receptor Kinase (LecRK)-mediated non-host resistance in barley against cereal leaf rust pathogens.

Prior to joining the lab, Urooj completed her PhD at the National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR) in India, where she developed a strong background in plant molecular biology, plant pathology, and protein biochemistry. Her research interests center on plant immunity, particularly the identification of pathogen-derived ligands that are perceived by receptor kinases to activate plant defense responses. She is especially interested in applying this knowledge to develop durable disease resistance in crop plants.
